Then I try to pick up the manticore by creating a vortex by spinning the sword very very fast.

Then I shape more of the metal into spearheads and use the same spinning sword technique to send them towards the manticore.

"This is not what I mean. Listen closer this time. You have the four elements around you. Any regular magician can just shape a weapon and have it fly at an opponent. A combat Magician can use his sword in a way no one can. He can choose an element around him and force it to cover their sword. They can then fight, without getting too close, by swinging his sword like he was fighting but the element around his blade expands to make the strike for him. Sure you can continue to make things fly. but can you make things flow?"
just wondering, did you notice i was following the rules of magic as learned in book 1,
using magic requires the same amount of energy that it would to just do it with out magic.

I use the earth and send it flying out from the blade and following its movements.
cheap way, cover the sword in dirt that can't be removed without my word, then chop of the head. (technically not touching the manticore)
