Don't worry, if you stay near the flaming coal/crude oil bonfire for to long the gas-mask could clog, but you'd easily be able to brush the ash off the mesh.

Seeing as your using a shotgun (not great range), and you are just shooting in the direction of a sound, it's strange that you hit. But hit you do. You climb down the rope ladder into the pit-mine and find yourself in a large cave-like chamber with airborne dust sluggishly stirred by soft-bodied insects. There is a crevasse leading deeper, with some old ropes near it. The walls are covered in a green fast-growing crystal with four-winged bats apparently eating it.

You go down the second elevator into a new chamber, this one isn't much better. There are strings on half molten rock dripping from the ceiling but it isn't smoky. The exit is a crevasse on the far side of the chamber. There are metallic glints coming from slivers of ore visible on the walls.

There is a final lip-smacking noise before the creature finishes it's meal and moves into the light. This is no natural creation, it has the body of a giant frog, but furry ratlike limbs protrude from it's belly in seemingly random places and thick stitches hold them there. One of the animals eyes is a angry red whilst the other is pale green.

The walls are strangely clay-like and soft, after a few seconds you manage to pull out a chunk of ore, it looks like aluminum. Its very pure and a perfect circle shape about the size of a grapefruit, this is perhaps caused by erosion, though there's no water here at the moment.

As you stow the items the "heavy duty" door gives way and crumples like tin foil. On the other side is a circular tunnel knee high filled with rushing greasy-looking water, with the door open water starts rushing into the chamber you're in.
