Hey guys, any fellow MetalHeads around? What are some good bands you guys usually listen to?
I have recently been getting into some Whitechapel and Veil of Maya. Both are Deathcore bands, and they both employ very deep riffs, as well as very deep death growls. Typically, you'll run into a lot of songs (like any other core band) that try to fuse heavy riffs with some melodic riffs in the background. These are the only Deathcore bands I listen to, since the entire core genre has too much melody for my tastes.
I'v also been getting into some Meshuggah and Vildharta. Both pioneers of the Djent genre, but only the latter is technically Djent. If you like technical song structures and low pitched riffs, these guys are the ones to listen to.
Some pretty heavy Death Metal can be heard from Abominable Putridity and Kraanium. These guys are some of the heaviest bands I have ever heard (aside from Hate Eternal). The gutturals dominate most of the vocals, with the occasional death growl now and again.
I'm always searching for new bands to listen to. Do you guys have any suggestions?
Would mention them (as they are my favorite)..but they are more nu-metal
They're more Experimental Metal then anything else. Nu Metal can't really be defined in my opinion. When I listen to Nu-Metal all of the bands make it sound completely different, the beats can be all over the place.
But now that I mention it, yeah, I guess System Of A Down should be considered Nu-Metal. You learn something new everyday.
Oddly enough, you have bands like Gojira or Meshuggah who have some heavy vocals yet very poetic lyricism.
I don't mind the odd song from Meshuggah, and I like how their lyrics are progressive vis a vis other contemporary artists. I just don't fancy that kind of sound.

I always found Meshuggah relaxing (compared to other bands). I think a good song to check out would be Shed. Besides the initial death growl, the rest of the song is pretty mellow. The distorted chugging is still there, but not as prominent.
Alright, it seems to me that very few people know bands like letlive. or Today Is The Day. So I'm gonna post some links to some songs people may not be familiar with. Most of these bands are getting into the Metal Scene, others lurk into other genres and are more underground. Give or take.
Today Is The Day is a bit hard to describe genre wise. One second they are more Experimental Metal and the next second they pull out rifts similar to Psychedelic Rock. They're widely known for being a Noisecore band considering they've made a lot of songs that are derived from Noise Rock and mixed with elements from metal. Some songs they're well known for are listed below:
- Today Is The Day - The Descent Note: The video is a bit creepy so I recommend opening up another tab and just listening to it instead of... looking at it.
letlive. is more so a rock/punk band then anything else but it comes pretty close to metal. Yet it is still pretty far compared to bands like Cannibal Corpse, Slipknot, or Lamb Of God. Some of their songs that I think are slightly metal-ish are listed below.
Ghost is more of an older themed metal band. They're sound is similar to the stuff back in the 80's. However they are somewhat unpopular due to the "Satanic" lyrics and the clean vocals. Personally I don't mind but it's because of this they are largely disdained.
Hopefully a metal topic came in after a while. I remember opening or keeping one alive some time ago (1 or 2 years ? i really can't remember) but eventually it died; tbh i totally forgot about armorgames' forum and well today i happen to check it, out of luck.
** What are some good bands you guys usually listen to? good bands¿? that is more subjective than anything, there are plenty of bands out there in a variety of sounds and its up to everyone's taste or habits.
I started listening to metal back in high school and returned to it from time to time changing my predilect songs or genres every time and then. You really get bored after a while imho and music is such an interesting thing to dig into.
** Do you guys have any suggestions? Yeah why not.
These ones (there are more and more but i gotta keep it short) catched my attention lately, now i'm more interested in The Cure but eventually i gonna return to the metal XD
That's some pretty heavy stuff. Can't go wrong with classic Death Metal.

I can never take German bands seriously, lol! I haven't been able to get into Black Metal too much either. Pretty good band though, one of the easier Black Metal bands to get into.
I'll also drop off some more bands, both of which are Tech. Death Metal: Decapitated is a great band (or used to be, their most recent album is lacking since all of the original band members either died or left). It takes a little while to get used to the chaotic riffs, but once you do, you'll find that the songs have a very catchy tune. The other is Hate Eternal, which I believe I mentioned before. Any Heavy Metal fan should know these guys; If you don't, these guys are basically on the most extreme side of Death Metal. As with Decapitated, they have very chaotic riffs, but they also seem to blend those riffs into nice melodies if you listen hard enough. If you're more into melody, rather than chaos, then I also recommend Amon Amarth. They're a Groove/Death Metal band. Pretty kickass riffs, but too much melody for my tastes.
I love Cynic. My first experience with them was the song Textures, and the musicianship and style was just amazing. I've never been too much of a fan of the robotic vocals, but who cares when you have masterpieces in music like How Could I and Integral Birth.
The chorus is just beautiful, with how it mixes the melodic vocals and the harsh vocals.
Gotta agree. The robo vocals are toned down in this song, and they really do blend with the harsh vocals. It's a sweet and sour kinda thing. The lyrics are also kicka** even though I have no idea what to make of killing virgins and doves that cry tears of blood.
How do you guys feel about Metalcore, and it's subgenres? Since they're usually mainstream, I tend to stay away. However, today I decided to check out a couple dozen Metalcore bands. I can honestly say that Metalcore is the genre of Heavy Metal where the posers and untalented reside. Horrible song structures, meaningless screaming, whining about breaking up with their girlfriends, etc... Deathcore is bearable atleast, in the sense that the Death Metal usually outweighs the Metalcore. But then you get the group that tries TOO HARD to be Death Metal: Grindcore. This group tends to go back to the horrible song structures and meaningless screaming, and to top it all off they just spout random "heavy" lyrics. Atleast take a lesson from Dying Fetus, and have some meaning in your lyrics.

Dying Fetus is good. Not the best I've heard but never the less good. I've only heard a few of their songs and it isn't entirely "heavy metal" exactly.

How is this word allowed to be said on Armor Games...
I need to check Decapitated and Hate Eternal, give Amon Amarth and Cynic another try and i think i heard some Dying Fetus before not sure. Next time maybe some avant-garde or more melodics bands.
