"Almost ruined" doesn't work for me ! Tried it on two levels (F5 and M3), the achievement has been successfully unlocked, but not the quest. I got the achievement 2 or 3 days ago, thought maybe the quest just needed some time or a page reload to activate
I have been attempting to get several related Achievements: Long Crawl (G4) Blood Magic (O6) Smell Of Ozone (Q2)
All of these achievements require the use of only one particular gem type in the battle, but when I enter the level, before I build anything at all, the achievement is already marked impossible. I have even tried going to my skills and zeroing all skill levels except for the one gem type in question, but I get the same result. Am I missing something simple? Is there a bug?
wave 600 of endurance after wards i gained Nan shadow cores... now that i reloaded it says i have In,fin, ity cores... making game unplayable, i really do not want, to re do 100+ areas again, its an online save if it makes any diffrence
Is the "Almost Ruined" achievement working on this version? Or more specifically, can nests actually be brought to 1 health without destroying them? (I'm thinking it may be a base-0 versus base-1 issue)
Currently I'm on X7 where the nests have 200 armor and a g1 orange gem only does 41-82 damage at a 0.5 firing speed. This does the minimum 1 damage per hit at a rate of one shot every 2 seconds. I'd use a higher grade gem to do most of the damage up front, then switch to the g1.
So, once the nest is down to a couple hundred HP, I'd set the game speed to slowest, watch the gem fire a shot, watch the shot hit the nest, watch the health decrease by 1. It never varied and there was never a random 2-damage hit. Its always 1 damage per hit. BUT, each time it gets to 2 HP remaining and I pull out the gem to let the final shot bring it to 1 health, that final shot destroys the nest.
The achievement/quest is working as far as I know and I think I know what your problem is.
There is an actual delay in game between the time a gem fires its shots and they hit the target (as the shot flies through the air). Oftentimes the gem may have multiple shots in the air at one time.
So if you pull out the gem when 2HP are remaining, if 2 shots are in the air then the nest will get destroyed.
Here is what I did to make sure I didn't accidentally destroy the nest. When the nest was low on HP (less than 10) I would remove the gem. Then I would put it back, wait until one shot was fired, and remove it again. Everything else you are doing sounds perfect. By doing this several times, you have full control over how many shots are fired and can ensure the gem does not destroy the nest.
Thanks for the suggestion - it does appear to have been a lag issue of some sort where the reported health wasn't completely up to date. Apparently, the 2 seconds in between each shot isn't enough time.
There's only ever one shot in transit at a time, so I honestly thought there was no way you were right. But, I did an extremely careful run where I didn't trust the reported health, I removed the gem once I saw it start to fire, replaced it for the next shot when the nest had taken its damage, and I was indeed able to bring it to 1 health and get the achievement.
Just for example a level 60 50/50 combo gem of poolbound and another has a multiplier of 4.323 per mana pool level for me (maxed skill level btw; total multiplier in current game is 282.01) whereas a bloodbound (without any hits yet) at the same level gets 59.41x damage/specials per hit level. Basically in roughly 1000 hits you'll have overpowered the poolbound multiplier. I used the quad gem combo a ways back but it wasn't as formidable over endurance.
