You groan and move to search for a lamp, but your wrist is wrenched back in a bracelet of metal. You blink groggily as hot blood pulses through your skull and strain your eyes to make out the room around you. You appear to be handcuffed to a bed.
The metal grips hard to your captive right wrist as you try to muscle your way out of them. You hear scrapping plastic as the other half of the handcuffs grinds against the top of your bed.
At least your left hand is free. Where the hell am I?
You grope around the darkness, you feel the sheets of the bed and the denim of your jeans. You sigh in frustration as you feel no table next to you. The smell of lemon disinfectant is overpowering.
You thrust you fingers into your jeans pocket looking for anything that may be useful. You find a packet of gum, a small plastic card and... a ring of keys.
You have a scary realization. You can't recall anything before this moment. A painful throb in your head may be the answer to that particular riddle.
You shake your aching head, squinting into the darkness, and are rewarded with the outlines of large cabinets, a couple of chairs next to the bed and an open doorframe. Is this a hospital?
The reality of it now is inescapable. The smell of fetid lemon covering up vomit and wretch.
