It's been a while since the last Armatar Contest... time to launch a new one for all you dedicated artists out there.

The new topic is one that has been on my list for quite a while... and as you may have heard, March 10th was international Super Mario Day! WA-HOO!

https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2867/33375573995_f740c05e75_c_d.jpg

This pioneer in pixel art style games is the true ambassador for this edition's theme! So, what better moment to launch the next Armor Games' Armatar Contest than this one? Right! It's time for the:

Yes! You've read correctly! It's time to test your art skills in Pixel form! Even though it may seem easy, creating art in pixel form may proove itself more difficult than you may think... especially with the current modern day art programs at your disposal. So why not go back to the roots of gaming?
As the art may have changed, the rules remained the same. Here they are once more...

ARMATAR CONTEST GUIDELINES :

ne: All entries must be appropriate. They cannot be offensive or profane in nature. Keep it clean!
The entry must be square and at least 512x512 pixels in dimension.
Your entry must scale down well to 100x100. So if it looks good in its larger form, make sure that it will still look good when it is scaled down to the armatar size. Here are a few suggestions about this :
Sometimes keeping it simple is better. If you go into a lot of detail, it might not look as great when you scale it down. So keep in mind what the Armatar size will be and check often how it looks when it is scaled down.
Remember to save a lot while you are making it! Better to delete 20 -in between made- save files later on, than ending up with a finished piece you don't like or an end result that is showing up blurred when scaled down...
If you are able to do vector, by all means! That can help with the sharpness of the image. However, since they are small in Armatar size, this is probably not a big issue.
All entries must be fitting to the current contest's theme. If a certain entry is debatable to whatever extend, a Mod or Admin will give the decisive and final ruling for submission.
An entry must be completely original. You cannot use entire (or even elements from) pieces of artwork made by someone else, the entire armatar must be 100% created by you! A Moderator can ask you to provide conclusive proof that the entry was created by you entirely and you are obligated to provide this when asked for.

Plagiarism will not only exclude your submission by means of disqualification, it will also exclude you from participation in any future contests AND will have further consequences!

CLOSING DATE OF THIS CONTEST :

This Contest will be held untill 04/22/2017, so there's more than enough time to enter your artwork!

WINNING SUBMISSIONS :

Every participant of an official edition of the Armor Games' Armatar Contest receives a well deserved Merit for submitting one -or more- entries to every separate edition held. This means a maximum of one Merit per participant, per edition.

Alongside this Merit for your participation, we have a special non-game Quest to award for the winning submissions of the Armor Games' Armatar Contest! This special Armatar Creator Quest will be bestowed upon the creators of the winning entries that were chosen for every contest held. The winners will receive this Quest to show our appreciation for their outstanding work. Wear this Quest with pride!
Winners will be chosen after the edition is officially closed;
The winning entries are non-debatable, results are final;
The Armatar Creator Quest can only be awarded once per user. If a particular user wins another edition, they will not receive this Quest again, as Quests can not be achieved a second time;
As a special appreciation for their outstanding work, all the winners and their winning entries of every edition will be placed into the Armatar Creator Quest Winners Hall of Fame!

Allright! Now grab your pencils and paper, and/or your mouse, and start making your wonderful original works of art, PIXEL STYLE! As always... be creative and amaze us! =)

And remember... there is a special guest judge for this Edition! Super Mario!!

@MrDayCee Oh, I'm kinda disappointed to read that, but I understand. However, I can assure you that I made them myself. If there is any way to prove it, I'll do it without any problem, if you have an idea about it. If I wanted to cheat, I would have sent only one picture. About Llivia, I know her, I taught her how to use Paint and helped her a bit, but she did the rest.

But, once again, I understand your doubts, and if I had known that those exact pictures were already on the internet, I would have done something else.

Well another round over and some great entries, notwithstanding some dubious ones.
Well done everyone.
You can still draw some mean armatars @MrDayCee, it's a pity you can't compete for real bud cos you'd get my vote for sure.

@Holole I need to be strict in such matters. You can make an entry by yourself when using reference you found elsewhere, but if it becomes an (almost) exact copy of someone else's art, you need to provide proof in order to have it approved for entry/upload. If you can both provide solid proof you in fact created it yourself, I will reconsider. Sorry...

And thanx @huwbert2013 !

I don't really know how I could provide a proof, that's the problem. Too bad, I guess...

Even though I had my suspicions about your first entry (@Holole), I have to be strict and exclude your 'Megaman' and 'Samus' entries (@Holole) and your 'Donkey Kong' entry(@Llivia), as they are exact copies of images that are created by someone else. This is clearly stated in the Contest's rules (see OP - Opening Post) and will not be valid for entering. Further more, using other person's art is considered plagiarism and will result in the banning of this user for any new Armatar Contests in the future...

Emm... @MrDayCee , does it count as plagiarism only if you use someone else's art or if you make one exactly identical with it? For my entry I used the EXACT same dimensions as the original, so would that be considered plagiarism too?

@Holole I understand what you're saying. Take a look at my Space Invaders Armatar for example? I made it from a reference I found from the internet and then made it in different dimensions myself. I always save during the creation, which makes for a clear way of proving I made it, if needed.

@Gogotank Basically, if you use the same exact colors and dimensions, then yes... unfortunately... the idea of these contests is to be creative and make something yourself, rather than copying another person's artwork or, even worse, pulling something off the internet and posting it as your own, with or without editing it. (Not saying you did that here btw).

Yup, I see what you're saying, my bad then. I'll remember that for the next time, I don't really have any way to prove that's my creation and the contest is over, an other time maybe !

Yeah my sonic was taken from a bigger image I downloaded then redrew using the original zoomed in as reference. All my other stuff was my original drawn ideas.
Like @MrDayCee said the idea of these Armatar competitions (and all other art related ones) is your own work is on show.
Despite the legal issues of copyright, using someone else's artwork without permission is rude and uncalled for, punishable by a sharp slap on the wrist

Have the winners been released yet!?
Also, when is the next contest? This was tons of fun; making entries and seeing everyone else's entries too! I can't wait for the next one

Oh no... I'm late!

@MrDayCee, is there any possibility for another contest like this one?

@MrDayCee Still no winners announced yet? Also, you get a merit for entering a competition, you don't have to win, right? Are they being handed out at some point?

I know this is surprising, but I really like that cat armatar. The mouse dragon is my other favorite. They're all really good ones, though. Congrats to all winners!
