Flash was announced to be shutting down long before it actually happened, why haven't alternatives popped up? Considering the massive amount of web development technologies coming out and getting updated, maybe its because JavaScript is too slow with math?
There is other backends you could use for a game, no?

What do you mean? HTML5 has been an alternative to flash since, what, 2014? There was Unity for a while, too, but HTML5 seemed to come out on top.

Making a game in HTML 5 and vanilla javascript is hard because its so slow, flash used actionscript which was faster and satisfied the ecma script standard at the time.
Web assembly is the future of web games once developers can compile their games to it because its faster.
