Theres 2 ways...an easy way and a hard way :P

Easy way: You can use websites like free webs, geocities, etc to build websites. You don't do much/any coding for the most part...thus making it easy...however, this takes away customization of the page and making the website 'your own'

Hard way: You need to use xhtml, css, javascript (optional), etc to code the pages from scratch...it takes some time tolearn how the languages work...but once you get the hang of it, it becomes easy... ...I'm trying to make a website using this method presently ...so if u choose this method, i might be able to help u a bit

jpx111's 'easy way' is the free way. You can't just make full out websites like AG for free. Go here if you want to make one.

The 'hard way' is not free and cots a pretty penny. If you do get a program to make one, then I do suggest [highly] to take the tutorial.

What kinds of things do you want on the site?

If you just want to write stuff, you could try making a blog. Or, if you want to include pictures and videos from youtube, most of the free sites mentioned above should work.

Back in my day, I used WebSiteMakerCafe. Is that still around?

Well the Website I use is called Moonfruit and for just 10.99 (Pounds, not sure how much in dollars) you can get a domain for a year. They have realy good graphics and Widgets to put on plus your own HTML code.
Hope this helps
Paddy

For a simple website, you need HTML.

For a highly personalized looking website, you need CSS.

For an interactive website, you need Javascript.

For server-side scripting, you need PHP.

Of course, you can use other languages, I have just listed some of the most popular, and the ones I use.

If you plan on using PHP, make sure your web host is PHP compatible, and I recommend using Apache and MySQL.

first you have to learn some html / css / php / javascript, you can check youtube for some awesome tutorials.
then you have to buy a domainname and hire a server.
