ForumsProgramming ForumSpeed difference in Firefox and Internet Explorer

I am noticing that my program is running slower in Internet Explorer than Firefox. If I have a sprite move from one edge of the screen to the other, it will take about four seconds in Firefox, but about 4.5 seconds in Internet Explorer. Anyone else come across this? Any tips on minimizing the speed differences?

Also, what browsers do you test your games on? Firefox and Internet Explorer come to mind. What about Netscape? I've also heard of other browsers (Opera?, Safari?) but I have never used them. Do all of these support Flash?

Thanks,

No tips, IE just plain sucks There shouldn't be _very_ big speed differences, so dont bother. It is caused by different way of handling Flash plug-in.

Be sure to test the game in Opera though, cause there can be problems with loading and version detection. Opera is a nice browser, i like it and use as my primary one.

All browsers support flash.

P.S. There's also a Google Chrome. Netscape died recently, dont even bother.

IE sux and more viruses

I think firefox is the best now (compare to Opera and others)

Google Chrome is still unrealiable, we'll wait GC ver 2.0 perhaps

Umm... You using Internet Explorer 8 or 7?

I got IE8 it Owns Firefox in speed.(Yes I've used Firefox)

Anyway you will just want to test games of the most popular browers (Internet Explorer and Firefox)

I agree with Bikasp, anyone who says Mozzila's better than IE8 probably never used it before. IE8's can download files easier than Mozzila, i can't even download files on systemrequirementslab.com using Mozzila. Plus they have a new Private Feature, if you activate it you'll be like a ghost, Internet Explorer will make it look like you've NEVER went to any sites when you activate it...VERY USEFUL...

the only thing i commend from mozzila is its organized bookmarks and downloads...IE7 may have bugs which viruses tend to breach but they fixed in on their new IE8 version. trust the people who created your OS...

plus, don't blame IE7 for viruses breach , it's the most common browser known so it's definitely the most likely to be attacked by a virus, the same could happen to mozilla in the future...

but for me, im sticking with IE8...

The latest version of firefox is very fast as well. Also, it's customization id a huge advantage.

Hmmm...I would say that Firefox is faster in terms of 'Internet horsepower'. But after using IE for the past 8 years, I'm not comfortable with changing programs at the moment...I'm content with IE at the moment. But it definitely is not as smooth nor powerful as Firefox.

I won't argue about downloading speed between browsers; with my budget DSL, my internet is slow no matter what browser I have

But how about the speed in Flash animations? Anybody try playing the games on this site using different browsers? Or running the same flash program from your harddrive using different browsers?

anatolytt: Thanks for the insight. I'm trying out Opera right now.

The best would be to download all possible programs...and test them out to choose something you feel comfortable with. Or perhaps you can alternate between the programs to suit your specific needs.

Really, Firefox has many advantages. It's so personal and fast that there's really no use for IE.
