Im 16 and I've been programming in school for about a year now. All we do is boring database programs, calculators etc. so I've decided to try something that actually interests me and learn how to make games. Only problem is I am completely new to ActionScript, all my programming has been done with RealBasic, although I do know the fundamentals of programming which should help alot. Ive "acquired" a copy of Flash Professional and begun looking for tutorials online; all of them even the basic ones seem to require a knowledge of ActionScript and the Flash program.
So i put it to you guys at armor games, by far the best gaming website on the web, to suggest and good tutorials that can teach me the basics of ActionScript/Flash.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
PS Sorry this is such a long post, got carried away
Lol, you call that a long post? Look around, there are some that are five times your length... (ps: good job for sucking up a bit. We love that!)
Anyway, when even the basics seem too advanced, I'm guessing it's more a concept problem than a programming problem. When we talk about frames, document class etc, do you know what we mean? If you don't it's no problem - we can explain all that - but then we have an idea what you do and don't know.
[url=http://pelfusion.com/tutorials/35-flash-game-development-tutorials-fla-files/] Theres some good ones there. Like http://gamedev.michaeljameswilliams.com/2008/09/17/avoider-game-tutorial-1/ OR http://www.mrsunstudios.com/2008/08/tutorial-make-a-vertical-shooter-in-as3/
The stuff you learned and what actionscript is are in totally different leagues. I would recommend you to "acquire" basic and not so basic actionscript 3 from www.cartoonsmart.com which should be a good start or go buy or borrow a book on the subject I would recommend learning actionscript 3.0 the adobe developer library edition and possibly flash game university which teaches you all the games their physics and the math involved and breaks them down.
