The best idea I think is take a few days (weeks, whatever) and toy around with Flash, just so you get the generic idea. After that, I'd look up as much simple AS2 tutorials as you can, and try not only to mimic them, but also variate on them - this will learn you so much more than just doing exactly what's being said in the tutorial.
If you haven't already learned a language, I highely recommend that you learn AS3. It's much more competent, meaning it can do SO much more, with SO much less, and it apparantly can run faster, or something.
