Ok, I have tried making better websites since my first disasterous website, but everyday I come across the problem of making background that are best for almost any resolution. Ussualy the backgrounds I make are 1280x1024, since that is my resolution and has a high percentage of use. And the image gets cut of if the resolution is smaller or the image is making whitespace or repeating vertically to hide the whitespace,(all of my image repeat-x perfecty).

Now the question is how would you tackle that problem with my skills of XHTML, HTML and Flash(AS3). Also PHP&MySQL though still learning.

Again, I press submit then realise I wasn't finished.

carrying on, you can also post stuf that uses other languages(like JavaScript etc.) as I can probably learn them quick enough for my needs.

Kind of a funny thing though, I have a problem, I learn an entire new language, that's how I started PHP&MySQL, I needed a comment box without paying for it(like places where you buy code and then customize it), so I learnt it just for that, but obviuosly with PHP come more things like user authentication.

Anyway, the question is just there| in the above post!

You should ignore Flash and Php (which has nothing to do with website design). You should of noticed by now most website have either a image or a simple repeatable background and you don't use xhtml/html for the design since one of the grounding rules of we bdesign is to split content from how everything looks. Here you can find some templates designed only in CSS. Take the armorgames webiste not matter how much bigger you increase the screen you still have the main part centerned in the screen and the background being repeated. I don't really see the problem almost all websites now are designed on this principle and it works.

I found a solution using php and some javascript which detects the users resolution and switches the stylesheets accordingly,

as for you Dark, I know that most are simple repeats but my background isn't simple, it's non repeat.

I thought you said repeat thought. Kinda hard to follow since you kinda started talking about other things. Yeah that would work a script with and detection of the width if bigger than go to else with a diffrent stylesheet for the page.
