I jumped straight into action script without any prior knowledge about it whatsoever... lol.
I had written HTML, some batch files and a LOT of JASS ( custom script in Wc3) so I already knew a lot...
If you want to learn ActionScript, learn AS3 as it is MUCH more organized than AS2... even though AS2 is pretty easy once you figure it out, I assume AS3 is the same way, it just takes more coding but is faster and more organized
If you want to learn to write Action Script you could use a free program called Flash Develop or something, google it... you don't want to spend a ton of money on something you don't know if you'll ever use it.
