woopsie i pressed enter and it submitted.. anyway i can't figure out how to use flashdevelop, right now i have flash develop and flex sdk but when i tried to run a test script nothing happens in the box. can anyone tell me what type of stuff you need to get it to work?

try this tutorial, scroll down where it says Option 1 FlashDevelop alone. I don't use FlashDevelop so I didn't read it, but it's made by a guy who made the best as3 tutorial I've ever seen. Let me know if it's good, if not I can download FD and see what I can do (yea I have a lot of free time at the moment XD)
