Yay! One of my favourite times for music, although i wasnt born to see it or hear it. The band I choose is Journey and the song is Dont Stop Believing. The song is just epic, I cant really explain it in words, you nust have to listen to it and enjoy.

ugh

well unfortunatly the 80's were hair metal. and i dont like hair metal.

bands like:
poisen
the police
motely crue
and others such

are not some of my favorites or the best

alot of good punk came out of the 80's though
like:
suicidal tendecies
operation ivy
black flag
minutemen
Dead kennedys
Husker Du
Bad Brains

i could go on for awhile

but ya hiphop also had alot of great stuff out in the 80's infact most of the best was then
erik b. and rakim
run dmc
slick rick
big daddy kane
NWA (correct me if im wrong)
beastie boys
grand masta flash and the furious five

great stuff, then you got your U2 and all that junk

but i mean sometimes i think the bad stuff (in my oppinion) outshines the amazing stuff from the 80's. cause i hate hair metal and most arena rock in general. to cheesy.

I consider the 80's to be a pretty dull era. In my opinion, the only really good band that emerged was Iron Maiden.

guys. you cant NOT mention U2. what U2 has done has made them probably the second greatest rock band of all time, next to the beatles of course. and probably the greatest band of the 80's

that may be your oppinion. but either way, what they have done for not only the music industry but for the WORLD far exceeds about any musical act.

Well, coming from the metal/ underground standpoint... I'm going to go with Metallica. They redefined metal for ages to come, and I don't know of a band today that doesn't claim metallica as an influence. The pretty much shaped metal into something that parents and old people would hate, adding fuel to the fire of the counter- culture and rebellion of the time. Coming from the mouths of a lot of popular metal bands:

Black Sabbath may have invented heavy metal, but Metallica perfected it.

The only good band that made it through the 80's was pink floyd. every other band was ripping off eachothers riffs and singing like girls about drugs or sex. Pretty sad point in music if u ask me.

I take it you've never listened to Metallica, Iron Maiden, Voivod, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, and Pantera? But if you haven't listened to any songs by any of those bands, you must live under a rock or you've been deprived of good music.
