Hello, I have been making games for a while, I uploaded a game last year but it did not get accepted, anyway, I worked hard on a few games and I want to know if they are good enough for AG.
World Of Marvin: http://www.kongregate.com/games/Shadow_Craver/world-of-marvin
Marvin the Hat Explorificamator 2: http://www.kongregate.com/games/Shadow_Craver/marvin-the-hat-explorificamator-2
Don't take this to personally, but I don't think the games are Armor Games worthy. Only the best of the best get their games on Armor Games, and you seem just as much as a noob as myself.
But nice games, and keep trying. If you keep on trying like me, we'll get there in about 5 - 8 years.
I don't know anything about programming, but, here are some simple suggestions to make it better. You should be able to restart at a certain checkpoint. I got stuck behind the gate, and it wouldn't open. It would be nice if I could restart from the previous checkpoint or something. Like a restart button. When I died on the second level, my character didn't restart. I was sad.
1. Simple art (you need to hire an artist in most cases when making games and the only good art is the mountains in the background but i feel like you didn't make that)
2. Simple game (its just an extremely simple platformer)
Thanks for the reply Master, but I think the simplicity will wear out over time, have you played my older games? :P I started out with much simpler. Try the first Marvin Game, Going up up and away, I made it about 8 months ago.
I played it and that picture thing could actually be a good idea. The problem is its still a pretty simple game. I could see a good platformer where you have to go around and find specific things to take pictures of.
You submitted a game to Kongregate? And not Armor Games!!!??? Shame Shame Shame!!! Just kidding, I've created a couple of games and sent them of to Kongregate. They weren't too good so I'm sure AG would've remained unchanged if I sent them here, and besides, I had no idea AG existed then.
I thought your game was pretty funny, but it was a little random, in some cases "glitchy", and you really don't do anything except move around. Armorgames can be a bit selective about which games they post and I'd assume if nothing happened for that long it didn't make it. Good luck on future games, though.
I did submit to armor games, they just rejected it
Exactly. You won't get there in 4 months at this rate. Neither will I. You game needs better art + music.
And you've colored in the main char with that default radial blue color. You should try to create your own radial color by editing the colors, or even better, not use a radial at all.
Plus, I've seen the code for something exactly like this on a tutorial before... you should try to create your own code, it will open lots of possibility for other kinds of games. Imagine it, you could have enemies chasing you, teleporters, gravity lifts, dismemberment when you die, guns etc.
