the person who starts chooses a letter, and then people try to guess what that letter is, by guessing different letters on the keyboard.
for example.
player 1 chooses a letter. player 2 then tries to guess another letter. player 1 then says hot or cold, depending on where the letter player 2 chose is on the keyboard. example (words in parenthesis are not part of the actual game):
player 1: ok, I've chosen my letter (G) player 2: i guess "L" (since L is very far from G, on the keyboard, it is very cold.) player 1: very cold player 2: ok, how about R? (R is closer, so it is hot.) player 1: hot player 2: T? (T is very close to G, so very hot.) player 1: very hot
and so on, until someone guesses the exact letter.
cold/hot meter: (this is all the possible things the runner of the game can say to a letter guess): Very hot hot warm neutral chilly cold very cold
on this first round, you will get unlimited guesses! Also, you will only use letters the start so it is easier, and so you get the game.
@godandd: J is warm. Also, there is a similar thread called Hangman: Forum Version which had short posts but didn't get locked. Therefore, I think this forum game will be safe even without extra words. I will call those words anti-spam. Anti-spam is unnecessary and its off-topicness makes counting threads not allowed.
