Because both of his parents were busy, he was left fend for himself. He was a tough kid in a bad part of town. He was frequently beaten, and grew to hate New York City. As a child, he always wanted to return to Italy. But as time wore on, he got tougher. No one dared to go near him, and eventually he became the one stealing and beating. When he was 18, he finally got enough money to return to Naples, but decided to stay, and gave the money to his parents instead. They returned home, leaving him in New York.
