This is my âThe Last Stand: Union Cityâ complete guide for hardcore mode. Enjoy! Just so you know I assume that you have the survival kit which means you can carry much more items. Try to work your way around this by not using some of the things I say to use. Unfortunately because of a glitch I died so I won't be continueing this guide. I realise that this isn't much but I didn't want my work to go to waste. This is 3,891 words and 29 pictures so I don't want to ruin it. Please enjoy.
How to start off the game?
My starting stats were:
Strength: 10
Precision: 1
Intellect: 5
Endurance: 9
Luck: 10
I put my points in Fitness, Survival, Searching and Blunt
Donât worry about precision. It isnât really needed early on. Using these stats you should easily destroy the infected early on using the wood board.
Pinedale (Jefferson Avenue)
There are no enemies here. This is kind of a tutorial to searching (Pressing E). Use shift to run until you get to the trunk.
Inside the trunk you will find:
Equip the Tire Iron â" Damaged and the Tauron 9mm - Damaged. You only have five 9mm bullets so it is best not to touch the Tauron yet. Press 1 to switch to the Tire Iron and 2 for the Tauron.
Once again press shift to run until you come to the end of the screen. Move your mouse near the edge of the screen and press âEâ to enter Old Road (Pinedale). To see what road/avenue you are on press tab to open your invent and look in the top left corner.
Old Road (Pinedale)
You can finally see your first zombie. I personally found four. The first one I had dropped some ammo (.45 cal and 9mm). The rest dropped nothing but I did lose four of my total health (I know. GASP). After killing the immediate zombies run to the first house you find. Your guy will say something like "Hello...is anybody there". Hover your mouse over the door and move in.
First house (Old Road Pinedale)
As soon as you get in the house search the closest thing on your right. You get a wood board and some form of clothing (It changes). Equip the wood board and discard your tire iron.
After you have done that search the fridge and click take all. There will be junk items in the fridge but donât worry because we're going for the achievement "One man's trash" (Pick up 25 junk items). After searching click the "?" tab and delete everything you donât need. You will also get food from the fridge which you should keep for later. Now you can go up the stairs. I didnât find any zombies but they came from the roof suddenly for me. If you do get a zombie jump in the air and try to kill the zombie mid jump. If you get the achievement for doing it (Death from above) you should level up as it gives you 500 XP. I put my 10 points into pistols and one point in luck.
Search the room and then get out of the house.
Old Road (Pinedale)
After I got out of the house I started searching for zombies. I was
trying to get the "Outta my way" achievement (Shove 40 infected). Basically if I found a zombie I would shove it (By pressing space) until they were dead. It's great if you catch zombies unaware as they usually donât react fast enough. We're going to get the slugger achievement here too so if you get the "Outta my way" achievement get out the wood board and get the slugger achievement (30 kills with melee). Also do not level up after you get "Outta my way". We're going to get forgetful here too. It might be 50 XP but every bit counts and if you do it at a later level it makes a big difference.
After you have gotten both achievements you have 200xp till level four where you will get forgetful. Move to Smith ST (Pinedale).
Smith Street (Pinedale)
The first thing you should do is go to the first house you see. This house is a safe house and is used when you have to sleep. There are no zombies in the house. You know itâs a safe house because of the symbol and the arrow right next to it.
Before you go to sleep search all the rooms. I didn't find anything too important but remember to pick up the useless items and discard them later. I slept for four hours and was on 96% and full health.
After you wake up you should be hungry. You should eat enough to be satisfied but you need more. I was 52% and needed MUCH more food.
TIP: If you ever get a PPM 9 Pistol make sure you use it for the achievement "Pistolero". Don't specifically kill zombies for the achievement "Pistolero" but just make sure you use the pistol as normal use. If you run out of bullets switch to your melee.
TIP: If a zombie drops something make sure you pick everything up (Don't look at what it is). You can discard it later if it is junk and if there are more zombies its best to keep moving.
Now you should go to the next house on Smith Street.
House one (Smith street, Pinedale)
Search the book case next to you (Remember to pick up the trash items too) and then go through the right door into another room. I found two zombies but I'm not sure about you guys. I also found some chocolate, pasta and breakfast cereal. I was now fully fed. I kept going right.
There should be a lock in the room you are in now. It is extremely easy but make sure you pick it and not force. I found a Tauron 9mm and some ammo in the lock. If you didnât find a PPM 9 pistol make sure you equip the Tauron. If you did don't bother even taking the Tauron. Keep the ammo though. I then went up the stairs.
After going up the stairs I killed a zombie and leveled up. I put my two points into precision and 10 points into pistols and blunt.
I found a PPM 9 pistol - Suppressed which I was happy about. Along with that in this room there is an ammo stockpile which meant I had 200 9mm bullets now. I went left and quickly searched the room. Found some trash items which I used to keep up my "One man's trash" achievement but nothing really interesting.
I went right twice now and came to a bathroom. After searching I found some pain pills but nothing interesting. However there was a zombie in there. I was caught of guard because I forgot to reload my pistol but that shouldn't be a problem for you guys.
You can now go back to the first room but instead of going right, go left. I found a pipe â" Heavy, which was better than the wood board. I now just left the building and went to the next house.
House two (Smith Street, Pinedale)
I went downstairs first. I found some junk items but nothing interesting. I then continued upstairs. I found ray and talked to him but as soon as I did zombies fell from the roof. Not sure if that was on purpose (Death trap?) or not.
I went out of the room and down the street to talk to Ed.
I accepted the task and quickly went to room 12 again to talk to ray. He just says that Ed still has them and you have to go back to talk to Ed (who gives you the garage key). Search everything in the starting room but don't worry about the lock which needs 20 security. There was not any good items in the lock last time I checked.
Go left first (Not right).
I found a broken pipe and paper weight. They're useless now but soon you can use them. If you see these things always keep them. Iâll tell you why later. I went up stairs and didn't find anything interesting but did finally get "One man's trash". Now I can stop getting junk items (Apart from the broken pipes, welding rods, paper weights, Bags of nails, Roll of tapes and other things like that)
Now you can go back and use the key. The zombies were easy to kill but I found a bag of nails and a roll of tape as well as the bolt cutters. Trust me they will be useful soon. I also found a "PPM 9 pistol - Ext. Mag" but I kept my suppressed.
I went back to Ed and got 300 xp which was nice and now I could go to Brookvale.
Tanner Street (Brookvale)
I am greeted by a fat guy running towards and I swear he would not go down. I ended up on 78 health.
I just went to the first house I could find.
House 1 (Tanner Street, Brookvale)
Always inspect the notes when you see them as there is an achievement "I know" for 30 notes inspected. So inspect the note that is in that room and then continue to search everything else. I went through the right door first. I lost a lot of health here because there were four zombies rushing at me. I eventually kill all of them and went upstairs. There was a zombie but I critical hit him from behind. The room on the left didn't have much in it but there were 3 zombies that lowered my health to 30. Luckily I leveled up. I put another point in precision and the rest in pistols. I also got full health.
Training (Brookvale/Pinedale)
After I left the building I started to go for the "Aim for the head" and "Bloody mess" achievements. I camped there for a while but I ran low on health. After sleeping at Pinedale I realised that it would be much easier killing Pinedale zombies instead so that is what I did.
TIP: Crouching while shooting increases critical chance as well as accuracy.
Unfortunately I ran out of bullets with 1 critical headshot needed and 5 more pistol kills. I just switched to my pipe.
House 2 (Tanner street, Brookvale)
As soon as I came in zombies dropped through the roof. My pipe destroyed them but I was still hurt. I went right and killed the only zombie in the room. There was nothing useful in the room so I decided to keep going right into the backyard. I leveled up and put one point in luck and 10 points in survival.
I also got some 9mm ammo (33 bullets) from a zombie drop. I went outside and started trying to get that last critical headshot and Pistolero. I got both with 20 bullets to spare. I then switched back to my melee weapon (now we're going for juggernaut) and went to the next house. (Actually it's a store).
General foods (Tanner Street, Brookvale)
Search everything. You get some food and hopefully a broken pipe. Before you go through the right door make sure to check on the ground.
Inside that container are Kellyâs glasses. Take it.
Talk to Kelly and you will have to find "Kelly's glasses". Since you already have them just talk to her again.
You will also get xp for getting your first companion. The first thing you should do is give your companion a gun. You level up now. Discard the knife that you get because it is useless. I used my point on endurance and the other 10 points on blunt.
Now you can move to 8th avenue.
8th avenue (Brookvale)
Go to the safe house and rest for however long you need to (I needed 5)
After that get out of there and go to the next house on that street. Kill the zombies in the room and go to the door on your right. Search everything and take anything good. I got another suppressed pistol which I gave to Kelly.
Go out and then go to "Darnel's repair"
Kill the zombies that should be in that room and go upstairs.
You know how I've been telling you to pick up items like "Broken pipe" and "Welding rods"? This is why.
Basically Darnel sends you on quests to find these random things and he makes a weapon for you. The weapons he gives you are really good and even if you already have the weapon, it gives you some good xp for no time at all (That's if you collected them along the way).
Darnel gives you:
Pipe - Heavy
Nail board - Heavy
PPM 9 pistol - Suppressed.
You're supposed to search for the things he asked you to search for but because I got them along the way it happened in seconds. The heavy nail board is useful and if you don't have the PPM 9 pistol - Suppressed you will be incredibly glad you got it. I discarded all the other useless items I had collected but didn't need.
I then went into the next house. I realised I couldn't open the locks so I left them alone.
Eventually you come home.
Search the whole house and inspect the note that is written to you from Bethany.
It says she is at the hospital. After I inspected the note about 20 zombies fell from the roof. I got juggernaut here which gave me some useful xp.
I was now ready to go to Canal Park
Canal Park (Jefferson Ave)
I quickly kill a nearby zombie and get a katana - Damaged. It had wayyyy less knockback than my nail board but my blades skill was low so I kept my nail board. I then went into the next house and found Hank Morgan. He was offering a task worth 500xp so I accepted. Kelly wasn't too good anyway.
I went into the next house and found some zombies. I levelled up and put 2 points into blunt (To get the skillful achievement) and 8 points into fitness. I also put one point in luck.
Training
Before I continued I decided I was going to get a couple of achievements. They were:
1. Without a sound (Kill 20 unaware enemies)
2. Stay down (Kill 10 infected before they rise)
I got without a sound first. I leveled and I put my point in luck and 10 points in survival.
TIP: Put body fade rate to high because then you know most of the zombies on the floor are infected that want to get up. Also if your companion stops before a dead zombie it means it will come up.
Once that was done I was level 9 and needed 1.3k xp till level 10. I was going to try and search Glendale apartments.
The place doesn't have much to note so I'll just say some things I saw. The idea with every room is search everything.
Glendale apartments (Canal Park)
Level 10
TIP: I leveled up to 10. Since when you level up you get full health (Once you confirm) I didn't level up straight away but instead waited. This is really useful for saving health.
I put a point in luck and 10 points in automatics.
Achievement - Smart move
This place is a great way to get smart move. If you come into a room with 5 or more zombies quickly get out of the room for 250 xp.
Hank's rifle
Hank's rifle is two rooms to the right in the cabinet. It's pretty easy to find.
Go back to hank and talk to him. I liked Hank more than Kelly so I ditched Kelly and got Hank. He kept Kelly's Suppressed PPM 9 pistol.
I went into the place next to Glendale apartments but found nothing so I went back out and to the hospital.
Hospital (Canal Park)
There are some crates you need to jump over. They are annoying sometimes but shouldn't affect you too much.
You now are ready to go to the hospital.
Before I went in I killed one zombie and found I had street sweeper which was good for me.
As soon as you come into the hospital go through the right door. Forget about the left door. There are only zombies there.
Follow the safehouse signs.
You now are presented with a lot of hospital doors.
Every room looks about the same. The only thing to check is the drawers which usually contain pain pills.
Once you finish all rooms that are there you have to go upstairs. At this point I leveled up but I saved it for later so that I could restore full health. When I did level up it was 10 points in automatics and one point in luck.
Also you may get hungry. Make sure you eat because it can affect a lot of your attributes.
At this point I was dangerously low on sleep. I ran through the whole level making sure always to go up and barely killed any zombies. I finally found the safe house. I came across a lock along the way. If you open it you get two bandages and some pain pills. If you have the time you can go for it.
I finally came to the safe house.
To make it simple Bethany is not here.
After you leave the safehouse you can go left but nothing is really interesting there.
But if you donât really want to spend the effort donât bother.
After you come out you go toâ¦
Freeman Street, Canal Park
And you get to see your first king of pawn shop.
This is basically the store where you spend the money you have been finding.
TIP: Donât buy weapons from his shop. Most of his weapons are very common. The shop should be used for ammo. I personally didnât buy anything.
After youâve seen king you can go back outside. If you want to buy a weapon I wonât hold it against you but it isnât recommended. I had a sledge â" Heavy which delivered 39 damage so I didnât buy anything. Now you can go to Newtown.
Newtown, Houston Street
First thing you should do is go into the bank nearby. I donât think you can go right so just go left quickly search the two containers and get out of there.
The next place is âRed Rumâ. Do the same thing. Just go quickly in and quickly out.
Now we find a safe house â" Union security
Go upstairs and search all the shelves while you go up there.
Once inside you talk to a guy called Todd Stephens.
This is a quick and easy task so accept. After that you can sleep for a bit and get ready to set off.
Go to the âPrivate parkingâ place thatâs right next to union security. There was lots of half zombies here which is annoying because Iâm using melee. Go right and up the ladder. And in the footlocker you will findâ¦
And one of the funniest notes Iâve seen on this game.
I think I laughed for a full minute.
The hunting bow is a good weapon for killing silently but I donât think it is as good as it was in last stand 2. It seems worse. Also the ammo is incredibly hard to find. I didnât end up using it but still kept it.
After that you can move along to Washington Avenue
Washington Avenue, Newtown
The first place I went into was earlâs burgers. The first thing I did was go to the right and got the key to the ladies room. It said it needed a quest so I was kind of confused but it didnât worry me. I went into both of the rooms and searched all items. Nothing interesting it seems.
I went to the next building beside it. Again it doesnât seem like there is anything interesting although I did find another âSledge â" Heavyâ as a lucky grab.
The building beside that again didnât have much interesting⦠but I did level up. I put another point in luck and 10 points in automatics.
Finally we came to the subway. When you see the door to the subway⦠do not go through it. Instead go forward and you will find Richardsâ corpse. Search him and take the key and go back to union security and enter the gun cageâ¦
Take all the ammo and all weapons. They are pretty useful. I put the Death adder as my secondary but still kept the sledge hammer. I also gave a shotgun to hank.
After that I slept and then ate a bit and got ready to set off.
TIP: If like me you hate using your flash light a handy tip is to turn the brightness to 5
Eventually youâll come to a safehouse. I personally rested for a bit but you can do whatever. There is a note in there so I recommend at least going into the safehouse to read the note.
After that you can go to uptown.
Main Street (Uptown)
In uptown they have dogs. They are really bad for melee so I switch to my MP5 for them but you can do whatever.
The first building has some ammo but thatâs about it. Search everything though because Iâm pretty sure I found some good money in there. I donât know what is wrong with the left door. Thereâs probably a way to get in there but I donât know how.
The second building doesnât have a name anywhere near it. Itâs pretty big and has a safe house at the top. I got an ak47 here (It was a lucky find). I was pretty excited because itâs one of the best guns in the game. Also there is a very hard lock here. I never liked the idea of locks in the first place so I skipped it.
You get to a safehouse at the top and your character says.
You can sleep for a bit and take the food but then you have to go back down.
TIP: Read the notes at Uptown. There is at least 5 and helps for the âI knowâ achievement.
Lincoln avenue, Uptown
Check the gas station first. There is lots of food in there and money in the cash register. Great place to supply your food.
There was a zombie in there and I killed it. I leveled up and put one point in luck and 10 points in automatics.
The next place is called âBoothtiqueâ. All it had was a bunch of clothes but it did have a tinyurl link which linked to âhttp://www.redbubble.com/people/boothy/shop/t-shirtsâ. Must be one of Con's friends.
I then kept going and found a footlocker with a âM79 GRENADE LAUNCHER!â. That was pretty awesome. I gave it to my companion as he doesnât need ammo. I then moved on to 10th avenue
10th avenue, Uptown
A glitch happened where I was outside the safehouse in Uptown and I got the battle axe. The game resumed while I was still looking at achievements and when I came back I had 10 health left and no hope.
I will not be continuing this guide unless I get my account back or if I decide to have a change of heart.

Incredibly sorry about the wrong section. Would be great if a moderator could move it but if not I guess I'll repost it.
Because I really can't be bothered redoing the whole thing I will post what the weird symbols are.
 = " , '
â" = -
Usually those symbols don't come up unless you are copying and pasting.
