The year is 2400 CE. Or 500, 4000, 10000 in names unpronounceable to humans, depending on who you ask. The year is unimportant, time will soon be meaningless anyway.
No body knows how it happened. People have guessed, but no one knows for sure. All we know is that the galaxy, the universe, or even reality itself is simply breaking apart. We think. All we know is one day we where on our own planets, minding our own business, when suddenly people where yanked from there planets, planes of reality, or whatever the hell is separating us. At first it was just confused individuals, then groups, then cities. The buildings where all left, but the people just mysteriously dissipated. The other planets had people show up mysteriously, but of course had no way to tell anyone about that. In less then a year, another strange occurrence happened. The worlds where completely linked. Just stepping on a certain point on any of the planets would send you to a specific spot on another. They started out small at first, touching a statue might transport you, a single square on a sidewalk, or a tree, really any object would act as a totem to another world, with maybe one or two in a continent, however they grew into entire forests, towns, or stretch of desert. They seem to be growing everyday, leading many to wonder what will happen when they take over the entire planet. No one knows, but it is surly growing, and may be hearolding something much worse.

Little information is available at this time on the other planets, but a little more is known about the main species living there thanks to the planet shifting. I will show you one of the main reports done by humanity.

I didn't bother classifying this article. You do know I hate keeping information from the people, and entire cities of these creatures have appeared. Keeping this information classified would be stupid and futile. Earth must stay united. We don't know how these new forces will act, but I will stay optimistic.
I will start with the species most like us. Commonly called Zorks after that old show. They look a lot like humans wearing a costume, and a bad one at that. They are a bit paler than humans, with much larger heads and slightly smaller bodies. They appear to be at least as intelligent and advanced as humans, some would say more so. These seem like they would be the most likely allies, some people think they are even kind of cute. Like a doll kind of way. They seem to be peaceful enough and had made several attempts at communication.
The next is the Scales. They are lizards, and we treated them as such until we figured out they have some intelligence. They usually walk on all fours, but have been seen walking on there hind legs raising their tail for balance, and seem to be able to move there joints accordingly. I have been told by my preliminary scientists that they may stay on all fours to try and show as much skin as they can to sunlight, since to be able to develop advanced intelligence their planet would have to be much warmer. Our diplomatic state may be iffy, considering we offed a few when this whole thing started, but it is unlikely they will attack Earth, we have the advantage here. Not much is known of their true potential.
The final seem to be bugs, ranging from ruffly human shape to a ten-legged beetle the size of a car. The first few subjects entering Earth died, upon autopsy it was reviled their exoskeletons can not take Earth's atmosphere. A few managed to survive, it would seem they are either wearing some form of armor or have merged the armor into there body, however they do not seem much bigger. Just more shiny. We have not be able to observe said suits, since doing so may end up killing them, something we don't want to risk. We call them Plinks, since that is the sound they make when they collapse. Much like the Scales, the Plinks are unlikely to attack do to being at a disadvantage on Earth.
That is all we are able to confirm for sure. We have heard reports from civilians and minor law enforcement of other creatures, often with mythology attached. "Mermen" have been claimed to have been seen in deep oceans and quickly dieing and being scattered in several other locations. No bodies have been found. Next there are reports of "Dragons", we have recovered part of an alleged corpse of one. It has major similarities to the Scales corpses we have observed. It may come from one, or it could be a similar creature from the same planet. Finally we have had reports from near-human sightings, only distinguished from humans by a different language and more primitive equipment. There have also been sightings of minor animals, of course, but none of them are a threat to security and should be saved for our scientists.

Humanity is doing fine, four hundred years from current day into the future. In the history, there was a major catastrophe, the exact date is lost in history. This severely lowered the population of the planet for a century or two, hindering scientific advancement and keeping earth in the past. However around the year 2300, Earth repaired the telephone lines. Once communication was restored, civilization flourished once more, with science being recovered everyday. This lead to a scientific and political boom, ending up witch science better than it is today. One of the most noticeable features is the medical advancement that has lead to bringing the population back up to eight billion, as well as making people retain their youth longer, and increasing their lifespan. Otherwise it is mostly like the modern day, with slight improvements in most technology.
Politically, the Earth was broken into several factions, not exactly on good terms. North and South America make one faction, however the North and South have a significant degree of separation and some consider it a different faction all together. Europe and Asia where also two factions, once again north and south, with Europe and the aria around Russia and Russia itself being one faction, with the aria from Japan to the Middle East including said nations of Japan and Middle East. Finally, Africa and Oceania make the last faction, mostly do to Africa making contact with Oceania first.
Although many factions dislike each other, they have a form of a modern "UN" called "The United Forces", having as much power as a faction itself. Most of the combat done is small skirmishes, though somewhat frequent with at least one a year, between competing fractions but are officially frowned upon, though they are faction troops fighting. It is rare that the troops will be severely punished for this, and several factions have turned it into almost a ritual.
The culture is much like today's, with minor changes in many traditional thing do to the loss of information after the catastrophe. Languages of all kinds have changed, but English is a major language in most of the world, and the official language of the United Forces. Many common names are still used, if smudged, like "Zmith" as has been observed before. Even the new things have a taste of our modern time to them, do to the burst in science being founded on the work of modern time.
