I think it was back in the 80s when a Jumbo Jet carrying a US Congressman 'crashed' in the USSR. Of course, the US immediately accused the USSR of shooting it down, which the USSR denied of course. So then the US released the exact conversation between the pilot and the tower, and the orders being given to shoot it down.
Now, you're probably wondering. How did they do it? It works on the fact that, when you send a call with your cell phone, the recieving phone picks up *most* of the waves, but some get missed and go off into space. The US Satelites over the USSR picked up the stray waves from the conversation, and they had their smoking gun.
