One thing I've noticed upon coming to this fair forum is that you guys don't appear to have experienced the joys of the game of Mafia. It's a lite-RPG where there are no character points and no-one levels up, and the only enemies you will have...are the other players.
To explain the game, you get a choice of sources! Yaaay, choices!
Here's an excellent intro made in Flash by Mafia enthusiast mikeburnfire: http://www.sitesled.com/members/mikeburnfire/mafiascum04.swf
Meanwhile, here's my explanation of how Mafia works in 5 basic steps: 1. The game is divided up into 'day' phases, where everyone is awake and able to talk with each other, and 'night' phases, where everyone is asleep and chat/emotes of any kind are banned (unless otherwise stated)
2. The players are divided into 'Villagers' and 'Mafia'. Almost every player belongs to one of these two factions. In most games the villagers vastly outnumber the mafia, at least to begin with.
3. Mafia want to kill all the villagers and can off one person every night. They know who is Mafia and who is town and can talk amongst themselves at night in secret. They will automatically win when there are an equal or lesser number of villagers than mafia (so, if there are 2 villagers and 2 mafia left, then the Mafia will autowin the game.)
4. Villagers must figure out who the mafia are and get a popular vote to kill one person every day. For the purposes of voting, everyone is treated as if they were innocent, so everyone gets a vote. The villagers win by killing all of the mafia members.
5.Apart from basic villagers and werewolves, there are a few other special roles that have unique powers. Not all of the roles listed below will be used in every game. When a player is killed their role will be revealed to all other players.
That's all there is to it!*
More about Roles At this point, you're likely asking yourself, "What sort of roles are there, mister man?" Well, as luck would have it, there's another flash intro here by mikeburnfire, made for that very purpose: http://mikeburnfire.sitesled.com/mscumB.swf
Don't get too overwhelmed by the sheer number of roles, as the only ones we'll be using in this game are:
Town-Aligned -Basic Town (No special abilities) -Cop (Investigates one player per night, and finds out whether they are town or Mafia) -Doctor (Protects one player per night, and saves them from death if they are attacked) -Bus Driver (Chooses two players and swaps their positions. Whatever actions would have affected Player 1 that night affect Player 2 instead, and vice versa.) -Town Drunk (Chooses one player per night to visit and gets them completely smashed, preventing them from using their night ability (if they have one).
Mafia-Aligned -Basic Mafia (Mafia special abilities) -Godfather (Mafia special abilites + will show as town-aligned if investigated by the cop) -Strongman (Mafia special abilities + can kill any target, even a target that is protected by the Doctor or is immune, like the Serial Killer. He can only be sent to make a kill twice per game, after that he acts like a basic mafia.)
Neutral -Joker (This player's goal is to be lynched. If he is lynched, he wins, if he is killed at night or survives, he loses.) -Serial Killer (Like a lone Mafia, this player's only objective is to kill everyone else and survive until the end. To help with this, he wins any end-game tie and is immune to normal night kills, but he can still be lynched.)
Theme Ideas The theme of 'mafia' is all well and good, but there are many other themes that have sprung up over the years since this game was invented. If you'd like to take part, then please tell me in your post which of the following themes you'd like to play - it's all about which you'd find the most fun!
-Basic Mafia (Normal Roles) -Werewolf Theme (Mafia are Werewolves, Cops are Seers, Godfather is the Alpha Wolf - most other roles stay the same) -TF2 Theme (Mafia are enemy Spies, and every player is given a TF2 class to act as in public while their actual role remains secret - the trick is, any class could secretly be a spy!) -Arthurian Theme - (Got to have this, since we're at 'Armor Games'. Each player is given an Arthurian knight to play as, and some of them (the 'Mafia' have turned away from the path of chivalry and attempt to sabotage the noble quest for the grail.) -Pokemon Theme - (Because I just couldn't resist. Every player is given a Pokemon character to play as, while their role remains secret. Mafia members are secretly working for Team Rocket. Don't worry about the later pokes for this one, we'll be sticking to the first 150 if it's picked.)
Depending on how much interest I get for this, I'll be taking somewhere between 9 and 13 players for this first game, so sign up now if you want a spot, and make sure to specify which theme you'd like to play!
I love a good ol' mafia, but any attempts on this forum haven't succeeded, for one main reason: armorgames doesn't support a pm-system, wich is almost a must-have for any mafia (unless you want to use temporary email-accounts). However, if this does get off the ground, count me in. I vote for normal mafia btw.
