PLOT OVERVIEW:

The year is 1680.

For centuries, the planet known by its inhabitants as Cai had seen perpetual conflict. It seemed that none of the small states littering its surface could get the upper hand and dominate the others, though, so the wars were frequent but small and short-lived.

Until recently, that is.

General Erik Raschkrom was once among the small, powerless leaders who constantly fought for small bundles of territory. He, however, never lost. Never did he have to retreat; never did he have to surrender. Raschkrom conquered vast tracts of land, eliminating smaller states altogether, until he had built an empire hundreds of kilometers in width, spanning across the rivers and mountains that had once served as borders for the states that he conquered.

Raschkrom was ambitious and wanted nothing more than to move beyond his position of General, as most great men are, and so he easily wrested control of the empire from its ruler - who could do nothing to stop him - and declared it the Raschkrom Empire.

Now, people don't like to be conquered, and so the smaller states still in existence took a risk. They found a great military leader of their own - General Donovan Tower. General Tower knew that the trust that they had in him was great, for they had no reason to believe he wouldn't take control as Raschkrom had. At first he seemed able to handle his duties, bringing Raschkrom's armies to a standstill and convincing even more small nations to give him support in his defensive campaign. But Tower gave in.

He did so slowly, grudgingly, at first: initially all he did was dub his combined armies the Tower Coalition, but eventually he began acting like a ruler. After a few years, he began phasing out local control and the Tower Coalition became ever more centralized. Then Raschkrom attacked again, driving the Coalition forces back and killing Donovan Tower.

The Tower Coalition, however, still had great respect for their former leader. He had resisted the lust for power that Raschkrom had long since given in to.

They fought on, facing internal power struggles and a lack of significant military leadership. They fought on because they had to. They fought on because if they failed to do so, Raschkrom would be unstoppable, if he wasn't already.

And perhaps their savior has arrived in the form of a skilled young pilot named James Cain and his small group of confidants...

GENERAL INFORMATION:

James Cain is, in fact, a prominent figure in the Tower Coalition, and you are, in fact, all under his leadership. Not directly, of course. You will probably not meet him until late in the story, assuming you all make it that far.

You see, battling is a heavy part of this RPG, for obvious reasons. Obeying orders and being smart will earn you a slow but solid climb to prominence - trying to pull off crazy stunts puts you at risk of getting your zoid destroyed or (in extreme cases) your character killed, but it offers a chance to be incredibly awesome and earn my respect, if not the good will of your in-character superiors.

That said! Killing off your characters will be avoided as much as possible. I'm not trying to make anyone uncomfortable with battling. I just want you all to understand the risks involved.

High risk, high reward, hm?

APPLICATION PROCESS:

If you don't know much about zoids, this... may be difficult. But that's why such sites as Zoids Wiki exist - and you'll probably learn a significant amount from experience gained while playing, too, so don't be afraid to try.

The application form is as follows:

Name: [This should be relatively obvious - what is your character's name?]
Gender: [Male or female. Again, pretty simple.]
Age: [Preferably somewhere roughly between 18 and 50. Remember, they have to be fit for military duty, so don't get too extreme, although I am more than willing to accept characters outside of this age range, within reason.]
Rank: [You will all begin at Sergeant. Not an officer, but not without power, either.]
Zoid: [Yes, some people may own multiple zoids. No, you may not list more than one, and it may not be a Zoid X or Ultimate X. In fact, I would prefer it if you stuck with less powerful zoids on the whole. Also, if half a dozen Liger pilots apply, I will begin rejecting them, because enough is enough, eh?]

You may have noticed that the application is not very involved. Well, it really doesn't have to be. I know how powerful zoids are, and there's not much room for customization in player zoids, for balance purposes.

FINAL NOTES:

I do have a vague storyline in mind. You will be pushed towards it. If you want something to change - if you want to meet up with another player's character and they are willing as well, if you want to try a new zoid out, if you want to pull some insane but possibly awesome move - try it. Ask first if you're worried. But most of the time? I'll be open to your wants, needs, and illogical requests. I am at your disposal.

Have fun if you can. I don't want to ruin the story for you. I just want to make it interesting, and I want to keep you on your toes. So play the game with me - don't guess what I want you to do, do what you think will help advance the story in your favor.

Damage: Some mild stress and pockmarking to armor covering the front legs, and a smattering of light burn marks to the general front of the zoid.

The Redler does not actually have a functional mouth - the entirety of its head actually serves solely as housing for the cockpit. Also, the Sinker design lacks legs.

That is what a Sinker looks like, in case you aren't familiar with them.

The Bio Chimera's nature as a Bio Zoid actually makes it... incredibly powerful. That is to say, its armor makes it immune to most energy-based and kinetic damage. In other words, the zoid is all but invincible. I would suggest perhaps the Rev Raptor, or another melee-oriented raptor-type design, since they're so similar in appearance, purpose, and battle style.

Fun fact: the Bamburian, which is one of the few zoids capable of damaging Bio Zoids, is actually less powerful than the Bio Zoids themselves and hence acceptable for the purposes of this story. It's one of those odd little ironies in the world.

Anyways, your division is a newly formed one, assembled just days ago according to a battle plan written by General James Cain. Almost immediately, you were mobilized, sent north to counter an Imperial movement which could compromise the Tower Coalition's western flank, an area which had a severe lack of permanent defensive structures.

The tension is high this morning - Lieutenant Bastos (piloting a Dark Horn) is leading you and the rest of his squadron. Your fellow Sergeant, Armando (piloting a Bamburian), is flanking him to the left, while you cover the Lieutenant's right flank, since you two are the most senior soldiers under his command in rank. Behind you three are twelve lower-ranking pilots (all piloting Cannon Tortoises).

You are, rather obviously, an artillery squadron. Normally, your job would be to provide fire-support. But not today. Today there's no time to find a secure artillery position, for the Imperial division you were sent to counter has attacked early. You are currently being moved forward rather alone, your squadron being one that the General in charge of your division considers expendable because of its lack of mobility in a war that he expects to be fast-paced. Currently Lieutenant Bastos is leading you all north-northwest.

For a few minutes, the squadron proceeds warily, encountering no resistance. Suddenly, someone swears over the communications (probably an insolent private) and Lieutenant Bastos's voice follows. "Enemies to the east at two hundred meters. I count eight Command Wolves. Sergeants, engage them directly. The rest of you, provide fire support."

Immediately the thunder of artillery sounds as twelve Cannon Tortoises fire their battle cannons and Bastos's Dark Horn begins spraying the enemies with firepower from its Hybrid Vulcan Cannon. Beside you, Armando is deploying his sabres and making a move towards the Command Wolves as ordered.

I signal the other guy to do a pincher move (split up and attack the enemy from both left and right).

Armando recognizes that the strategy is sound, and breaks off to the left, leaving you to go right. Over the course of about five seconds (accounting for the arcing path that a pincer movement requires), you both cross the two hundred meters, and now you are about to hit melee. The rightmost Command Wolf is less than twenty meters away from your Bamburian now. The Cannon Tortoises have fired off a second salvo, but like the first, it has little effect, most shots missing or being dodged by the agile Wolves. Luckily this means they aren't paying you much attention.

I fire my laser guns and about 4 of my missles, then (when in range) I slice them with my sabres.

Equipment: Ear Radar (mounted in the ears), Dual Smoke Dischargers (mounted with the Eleven-Shot Bamboo Missile Launcher)
Damage:

With a mighty roar, your Bamburian flings itself into melee range, its laser guns pumping out firepower at point-blank range and the four explosions that preceded its arrival already leaving pockmarks in the Command Wolf's armor. Suddenly, you feint to the left, your right sabre deploying and biting into the nearest Command Wolf's front-left leg.

Having already crippled the Wolf, you pull away, leaving its limping profile behind you and the other seven in front. On the opposite side of the group, Armando is also fighting up a storm, although it appears that he has already expended all of his missiles, leaving the Command Wolves in his immediate vicinity scarred with damage while he bullies them with his own sabres but his own firepower severely compromised. However, he doesn't seem to be in any major danger.

The Cannon Tortoises and Bastos's Dark Horn are finally beginning to get some hits, with the Command Wolves now turning to do battle with you and Armando and unable to focus on dodging their artillery strikes.

I was unfamiliar with the Sinker and I didn't know the head was nothing more then a cockpit on the redler. I will grab the tail and throw the Sinker into one of his teammates.

You swoop in from behind like a demonic specter even as the Sinker attempts to turn, actually presenting its tail like a perch to you. Your Redler's front claws gouge the tail but fail to grab it; one of the rear claws, however, manages to get a clumsy hold on it, and you spin in midair, throwing the Sinker towards its allies.

Unfortunately, the Redler isn't all that strong, and can't get it to cross that distance. On the bright side? The thing spins out of control anyways and crashes in an explosion of torn metal and fire and such.

Looking back towards your own allies now, you see that Lieutenant Layton has taken one Sinker out (its mangled corpse on the ground has actually been sliced into three pieces) and is in the process of dueling the other at about one hundred meters in altitude. Sergeant Wauters is finishing up his own fight, taking a hint from your own tactics and practically landing on the Sinker that dares to oppose him, driving it towards the ground with brute force.

I fire some missiles towards the enemy's surrounding Armando. After that, I mostly fight defensively hoping that the artillery will do some damage.

Equipment: Ear Radar (mounted in the ears), Dual Smoke Dischargers (mounted with the Eleven-Shot Bamboo Missile Launcher)
Damage: Essentially light damage everywhere, and moderate stress to the Seiryuu Sabre mounts. There are a few scattered gouges where your armor was rent apart wholesale. Six missiles expended.

A pair of explosions ring out where your missiles hit home, giving Armando a chance to tackle the nearest Command Wolf and brutalize it on the ground, even going so far as to rip one of its legs off in his Bamburian's teeth.

You, on the other hand, are suddenly on the defensive, never a position one wants to find oneself in. The thing is, a Bamburian isn't significantly larger than a Command Wolf: they have the advantage of both more allies and the initiative, which leaves you reacting rather than acting.

The Bamburian is strong, of course, and it has blades, but it's not enough with three Command Wolves dancing around and ravaging your armor. Of course, the artillery is some help, but at such close ranges, you notice that they're unable to effectively target your opponents.
