The My Side of the Mountain series are my favorite books. I had an idea when I picked up the book again: I bet I can make a RPG out of this. And here it is, lol. It is about running away from home, and trying to live off the land. Here is your character sheet:
Name: Age: (between 13 and 17) Money: $40 Traps: None Tools: Ax, Backpack Inventory: Living Area: None Pets: None HP: 100/100 XP: 0/100 Know-How: 1 (this is your level)
For this game, the players will also need pencil and papaer, because this is also a bit of a simulation (although I wouldn't suggest running away from home, lol). You will need to take notes of what plants you can/can't eat, how to make stuff, and other things. All the thing that you learn in here might help you survive by yourself out in the woods (but like I said earlier, I wouldn't suggest running away).
Name: John Bravo Age: 16 Money: $10 Traps: None Tools: Ax, Backpack, Flint and Steel Inventory: Map to Catskills, 5 wood, blue berries (5x), walnuts (10x), wood (5x) Living Area: Lean-to Pets: None HP: 100/100 XP: 55/100 Know-How: 1
i they left tracks i follow them if not i make a spear by getting a long big hard stick (that's what she said! XD) and make it smooth then whittle a head for the spear
Name: John Bravo Age: 16 Money: $10 Traps: None Tools: Ax, Backpack, Flint and Steel, spear Inventory: Map to Catskills, 5 wood, blue berries (5x), walnuts (10x), wood (5x) Living Area: Lean-to Pets: None HP: 90/100 XP: 55/100 Know-How: 1
They did leave a trail, but it ends right at the edge of your camp, so you find that "long, big, hard stick" (XD), and turn it into a spear. Just then, you hear gunfire, and you relise you came up during the hunting season. Just then, a deer ran into your camp, crashed into you (-10 HP), then, literally, fell dead at your feet. You then hear some leaves getting stepped on, and twigs and sticks get broken. What do you do?
Name:Aleksa Age:15 Money: $40 Traps: None Tools: Ax, Backpack, Flint and Steel Inventory: 7 wood, puffballs (5x), apples (3x) Living Area: None Pets: None HP: 100/100 XP: 25/100 Know-How: 1
You hit the Goshawk, and it flys off into the distance, until you see it fall out of the sky. You hear some chirpping and twittering, and notice that the Goshawk was a mother (how dare you hit a girl, lol) to 1 baby Goshawk. What do you do?
Name: John Bravo Age: 16 Money: $10 Traps: None Tools: Ax, Backpack, Flint and Steel, spear Inventory: Map to Catskills, 5 wood, blue berries (5x), walnuts (10x), wood (5x) Living Area: Lean-to Pets: None HP: 90/100 XP: 70/100 Know-How: 1
oops, sorry : (+5 XP) if it's so low, is because it wasn't that big of a task, sorry.
You get some leaves and branches, and camoflauge it pretty well (+10 XP). But, now you need a hiding spot, or the hunters might call the cops, thinking you stole their deer (which you sorta did) and you would go back to your home. What do you do?
I got a new RPG, and this one is more complicated than most, and the game i got it from has been around longer than D & D, check it out:
Name: John Bravo Age: 16 Money: $10 Traps: None Tools: Ax, Backpack, Flint and Steel, spear Inventory: Map to Catskills, 5 wood, blue berries (5x), walnuts (10x), wood (5x) Living Area: Lean-to Pets: None HP: 90/100 XP: 80/100 Know-How: 1
You put out the fire, climg up the tree, and make a little hamock. Nightfalls, and you look down, and nearly fall out of the hamock. The hunters that had killed that deer you hid, were camping right in your camp site, not relizing that the deer they killed was sitting right behin them, and they couldn't see it at all (+10 XP). What do you do?
