You were fighting overseas to attack the kingdom of Yort, which was an enemy of your country for years. After 10 long years, your country has finally taken over the kingdom of Yort, executing every citizen of Yort. Throughout the war, you were put in a crew and worked your way up the ranks. Through respect and hard work, you've been put as the leader. Your training, clothing, weapons, and food were all paid for as the war went on. Unfortunately, due to the length of the war, your travels home are not paid for. Your family has waited for you at home for all those years. You and your crew must either start a colony at Yort, or sail back home.

When you say "Crew Name", do you mean the name of the ship that the crew served on (i.e. "The Victorious", the name of their military unit (i.e. "Reserve Company J", or something else entirely, like what they decided to name their colony?
Also, do we get to choose our own inventory/equipped weapon, and if so, are there any restrictions upon that?
It looks cool, and I'd like to join. I'm just not clear on those points.

Name of the military unit and the colony. The colony will be named after your unit.
Also, do we get to choose our own inventory/equipped weapon, and if so, are there any restrictions upon that?

It is the fifth day since the end of the war. You are finally at the shore. Your men are well-motivated to go home, but you are not sure if that is a possibility. You see corpses all over the ground and remember your early days of battle. There are many palm trees around the shore, there are also many wrecked ships and some driftwood along the shoreline. What shall you do?

I sigh. There's no way we can go home now - we've been here over a decade now. We've changed, our families back home have changed. We are family now. What's left for us back home? Nothing, anymore. Our children won't know us, our wives will barely know us. But here in Yort, there's a chance, I think.
"I'm going to be honest with you, but you're not going to like what I'm going to say," Erik announced, turning to face his men. "We're staying here at Yort. Some of you would rather see your families, some of you are probably relieved that you don't have to see your families." There was some laughter at this - halfhearted laughter, but it was something. "But this is the decision that I have made. We are, as of now, the first colony on Yort soil."
The first order of business will be sustenance. I immediately make positions clear: I assign five soldiers to gather up all the supplies that we have and any supplies we can find on the beach, and count up how much we have. I want to know everything that we can eat, drink, or otherwise get into our stomachs. And then I want them to get coconuts so that we have even more.
With those five soldiers handling that, I lead the other forty-five to the beached ship which seems least wrecked, and we drag it up the beach to the peak of a hill (since high ground is most easily defensible). Then, we use driftwood, rocks, and even pieces from other ships to secure it in place. I make sure to do just as much work as anyone else. It's important to lead by example, but I also make sure that I'm the one giving orders. A healthy balance of respect as a soldier and as a leader, that's what I need to earn here and now.

[you wrote... all that... :' I am grateful that there is at least one decent poster in the forum games!]
As of now, some men are demoralized yet hopeful. They hope that if they make a great enough colony and country, that they will see their families someday. They go ahead and complete the orders that you have given them. The scouts have returned and have reported that there is no livestock or animal in the area. Apparently the war killed off every single animal. However, there is still enough vegetation to feed the soldiers for about a month. However, the scouts were doubtful that the men would agree with having to live a month with only coconuts, olives, potatoes, and grapes as a diet.
There were no supplies other than weapons on the shore. However, there were many supplies on the ships, such as gold, cauldrons, weapons, and tools. It is estimated that the least wrecked ship should have the most supplies within it.
You manage to position the ship on top of the hill in one day. Your men are tired for the day and go to sleep, along with you. You wake up first in your crew. It is night and you see a lit fire in the distance.

[Well, depending on the game. Some people don't want to put up with such a volume of text, so y'know, I cut back when I see less being posted by the GM. In this case, of course... :P]
Fire means either life or death, and if it means life, that could mean either friend or foe. I consider the possibilities. Even if the fire has resulted from a slaughter, there's likely to be food or supplies of some kind - clothes on the deceased, at the very least.
I equip my armor, sword, and shield, with my dagger tucked in its sheath just in case I need it as well, and proceed to wake up the most skilled scout that I have, four archers, and five swordsmen. One swordsman is left behind, in case anything happens (after all, I wouldn't want my colony attacked on its first night!). Then, I lead the remaining soldiers that I woke up towards the fire.
When we get close enough, the archers and swordsmen and I duck behind cover, and I send the scout out to find out what's going on. If it's an enemy, we'll know whether to fight or to flee; if it's a friendly group, we'll know to make contact in a manner befitting allies; and if it's something else, well, I'll figure something out. Hopefully, in the dead of night, the fire-makers will be asleep, or at least drowsy enough not to notice our scout. There's nothing I want less than to have one of my men die tonight.

Your scouts search the fire. There is nobody around, but the fire is set up as a campfire. Surely no accidental lightning strike could cause that! Your scouts fear a trap, so they make a dummy to check it out. The dummy is fired upon by arrows. You hear someone yell, "DOWN WITH YORT!!!"
You hear the sound of battle upon the hill. Swords clinking and arrows whooshing here and there as your men defend their ship. One of your archers identify the shout and aims carefully at the man. You wonder why your archer shoots an arrow, but after he shoots, you hear a yell. "UGH! WE SHALL AVENGE THE KING!"
You notice that your attackers must be rogue men from your country. An archer jokes about his shot and says "Shall we resort to cannibalism?"

This is bad. Allies turning on allies - not something I want to deal with so early. But these men seem mistaken in their attack. But if I can hear what they shout... surely they will be able to hear what I shout as well?
"Friends!" I shout, ducking behind my shield and whatever limited cover happens to be around as I slowly inch my way towards the battle, my small expeditionary force following behind me. "Yort has fallen! Long live the King!" I raise my sword high into the air, rallying my men and hopefully alerting the newcomers that we are friends, not Yort renegades.
Motioning to my soldiers not to harm anyone who doesn't first attempt to harm us, I continue my diplomatic plea. "We're men of the King, the 66th Infantry Platoon! Lay down your weapons! We're all civilized men of the King!"
And if anyone tries to hurt me or my soldiers I stab them in the eye. Because that is what civilized men of the King do, clearly.

Some of the attackers get up close and come out from their hiding spot. To your surprise, these men have already died. Somehow, they must have come back to life. You notice that they must be undead because of their corpse-like appearance, with pieces of rotting flesh falling off as they move, thus uncovering their skeleton. Also, there is a heavily putrid odor of death lingering around them. One of the men yells out, "THY SPEECH OFFENDS OUR KING!"
Suddenly, you remember a curse that the Yortians have placed upon your kingdom. You try hard to remember, but fail doing so. You simply remember that Yortian land is cursed land until the curse wears off.

[About how many undead soldiers are there, and how many men of my crew are still capable of fighting (that is, alive and not crippled)?]
I balk at the sudden appearance of the corpses. This wasn't something I had expected, and it certainly wasn't an eventuality I was prepared for. But my mind worked quickly. I improvised.
"To me, men of the King!" I called, standing and raising my shield to the sky in order to prominently display the crest of the Kingdom. "Charge! To me, to me!"
With my sword, I slash at the nearest undead warrior, lowering my shield after a few seconds to defend myself as I fight. Hopefully, with me and my small squadron coming in from behind and the rest of my platoon attacking from the front, the undead soldiers would either be defeated or forced to flee.

The undead bow modestly at your shield. Their leader heads forward and calls for a truce, even though you killed an undead soldier.

The undead that have assaulted me, my men, and my colony, dare to now approach me with a truce? Disgusted as I am, I know it's better than suffering the losses that could come from a full-scale battle. It's always better to try and end a conflict peacefully, through maneuvering rather than brute force.
"Go to the ship and tell the men to encircle the undead while we have the upper hand," I whisper to the quickest soldier still beside me, sending him off. I figure that if we once again fall to fighting, my soldiers might as well be in the superior position.
However, it's still important that I negotiate.
"Order your soldiers to lay down their weapons," I call to the undead leader as he approaches, showing him that I respect him as my equal by refusing to issue orders to his group. If nothing else, he will know that I have a semblance of honor. I lower my own sword and shield, but don't drop them. No point in leaving myself defenseless. "Are you willing to surrender? You appear to once have been men of the King, although..." I rake my eyes up and down the rotting, skeletal figures before me. "...I have no idea what the Yortian curse has caused you to become."
