I am working on my first Flash game (using Adobe Flex). My game is still in its early stages, but I have been making steady progress so far, and I am looking for feedback on what I have implemented.
Thing I am looking for feedback on: -Is the loading time too excessive? The program is 3MB. I have licensed the use of two songs (composed by Daniel J. Schmidt), but if the loading time is too long, I can have just one song instead. Right now I have only the demo version of the songs in the game.
-Do you experience slowdown on your computer? I have a lot of moving objects, so I am wondering if my game is taxing to many computers.
-Don't mind the enemy. He can't be killed, and he is just moving along a predetermined path which is my first attempt at pathfinding. He can't kill you either.
-What do you think of the name "Geo Tank". I'm think of this name because of all the green and blue terrain.
Other general feedback is appreciated. If you find a bug, please describe it in as much detail as you can.
Controls: W,A,S,D -> movement Esc -> pause Left mouse click -> toggle rapid fire Spacebar -> "cannon". Long cooldown, the avatar will "glow" when it is ready to fire again.
Again I greatly appreciate any tips, suggestions, or contructive feedback. -Waynaul
I made some changes since my last post: -Added a basic menu instead of just having the game start in a paused state -The music should now start when the user presses the 'Start' button instead of playing immediately when loaded. -Added movement controls (Z,Q,S,D) that support AZERTY keyboards (can someone let me know if I got this right?) -Added a very very rough preloader (under construction) -Added a new enemy type -Added some new terrain. I mixed it in so that it is not always just the narrow hallway. I plan to add a lot more terrain. -I took out the first song. The second song now plays first, and I added a new song (songs are still demo files). Any feedback on my new song setup is appreciated.
You're right that the second song is jungle-like. The title for it is Jungle Antics by Hansen (don't have the composer's full name yet). I decided on this song because I imagine this game taking place in the Amazon River which goes through a tropical rain forest. I had originally wanted to call this game "Hovertank" (which is why there are tanks moving on water), but the name has been taken.
I will probably add feedback on collision with the player soon, although I will wait until the final phase to actually add code to end the game.
Hey waynaul, it must be hard and time consuming to make a flash game, I salute you. Anyways I noticed that when I make the map scroll by moving, blue circle bullets made by enemies don't scroll, they carry on their original line of movement even though the map has moved. Other bullets are working and scroll with the map.
The blue bullets not scrolling was intentional. I wanted the gimmick of those bullets to be that they are more of a threat when you are moving than holding a position or taking cover, as if they track your movements.
I want to put a final post asking people to not follow the link to my Newgrounds submission above. I removed my game from their site as I disagree with some of the controversial content they produce and host.
Having said that, I hope to post a link to an alpha of my second game in the near future. Thanks.
Theres no certain objective. Its fun for a few, but then it isn't. It needs some work. A new key to shoot with. The mouse doesn't fit into the scheme of arrows.
