You walk out of the tavern finding two more guards immediately outside, questioning people it seems. They are not getting much out of the drunks, however, and are quickly getting frustrated. They both have crossbows and small daggers, for whatever reason. Maybe they usually guard the wall. They seem to be looking for you, but are heavily distracted describing something to a drunk with a long beard sipping what he can out of an empty bottle. They are quickly getting annoyed, almost doing charades to describe someone who seems to be you. Their weapons are both on their backs, loaded but not ready to fire.
This could be troublesome, or you could work this in your advantage. There are several drunks out here, it wouldn't take much to aggravate them into a fight with the two guards, maybe making the commotion you where looking for earlier, either giving you a chance to escape or allowing your former plan of pick pocketing people in the chaos. You could shoot both of the unsuspecting guards, who may fight back and will cost you ammo, as well as giving away your location to more guards, but it means they will not be a risk anymore. Or you could simply slip away into the city before they notice you, but if they do notice you then a man running away from two guards would probably raise suspicion. What do you do?

Biography: A young man who never sought trouble after settling down in a cottage with his wife in the countryside. His job as a merchant, although not stable, was enough to sustain them. Fortunately for him, though, he had been prepared for the time he would have to defend their home; the very same wizard who accidentally linked the two portals had taught him a couple of spells before his untimely 'abduction'.
Physical appearance: Around mid 20s, somewhat tall for his age, of average build, short, black hair, brown eyes, crooked nose.
You can have some weak spells, like the ones I gave you, especially if it is taught to you by a drunken wizard. You can use them any time, but it will use some energy causing you to be tired and not fight as well, meaning you will need sleep more often.
I can't remember what the Greek says, I wrote it a year or two ago. Sorry. And yes, Mark Twain wrote the book. I took most of the quotes from the book "Letters from the Earth".
Now on to the story. Being close to the Wizard's house, you where near the portal when the incident happened. Your town was destroyed soon after, strange beasts of steel. You didn't really want to go, but your wife reminded you that you didn't have much here and that it wasn't worth dieing over. You took what you can carry, some money, some defense, and your knowledge of spells going to your mother-in-law's house in a walled off city some distance away.
You head off to the deep city just like any other day, it may be a crisis but you still need to make a living. You kiss your wife, lock the door, and head into the deep city. You go threw another ordinary day, nothing interesting, until the walk home that is...
A group of tiny green men where walking down the path near your home, all of them armed with crude weapons made of wood and bone. There is about five in all, and they seem to be ready to raid something. You have seen them before. Goblins. They where quite frequent on the country side, but pretty easy to deal with, a good show of force by killing one or two and they will go away. They are only really a threat if they can ambush you. The strange thing is that this is the first time you had seen one within a walled city, they defiantly would be not in.
Though they are interesting, they are really no threat. The larger threat would be the defect in the wall that aloud them in. You could fight the goblins, but they won't be able to break into your door or really do any damage, the only reason to fight them would be some training or to loot them. You could go straight to examining the walls, which could be dangerous but you will finally get a chance to defend your home, from whatever it is. Or you could go home, get your wife and objects, and get out of here before something bigger than goblins breaks in. What do you do?

Physical appearance:Tall,Short Black hair,Blue eyes
You prepare to exit the ship. It was a black mercenary's ship, the one that you always seem to use. Just a small five men ship, with a few guns on the front and a missile station, all of which where disarmed by the Kremlin by the escort ships that now follow you. A few red fighters loaded with guns and a star near it's nose. You then land, with the exit light flashing. You fallow three other mercenaries, men you have worked with often though keep a professional distance and are not good friends, out into a series of defensive hallways. Some things happen, you stop a few times, but you can't see what is going on as you have the job as rearguard you are typically looking behind you. You enter a transportation cell, a kind of horizontal elevator used to travel large bases like this, and after another few minutes you exit again. You manage to look forward far enough to see a swirling vortex that continues to change colors every few minutes. Then you continue looking behind you, until you reach the portal itself in which you allowed yourself to look forward long enough to enter safely. On the other side, you just fallowed your team mates again threw another series of hallways. Eventually you enter the outside, but you can't see much looking backwards.
Always looking backwards, it is a really annoying job. You don't get to see much, but it pays better than being in the middle at least. It makes for a really annoying habit, to.
You eventually reach a transportation jeep, in which you man the rear gun. Just a small stationed machine gun of some kind used to throw off anybody following, but you really don't pay attention to it that much. You pay attention to where you are supposed to defend. You can't even examine the jeep, but you know it is probably mostly open with the mercenary clan's logo on the side, crossed swords with a handgun pointing toward the outside. That is what it looked like when you sent it here, so that is what it probably looks like now.
You don't get much a chance to examine the scenery, but you do see brief flashes. First wasteland, totaled, a forest here, an abandoned town here, another forest, a hill or two, then finally another forest. The final forest is where something happened.
You heard yelling. A turret, probably the one on top of the car, started firing. You readied your gun, preparing to fire at any target that came into your sight. "We are under attack, where are they? Ugh! They are hitting us from the trees! Lookout! IT is a grenade of some...BOOM!" was what you heard you captain say, before you where thrown from your seat from an explosion somewhere in front, where you hit your head against a rock and then just blacked out.
You wake up, still fully armed and seemingly healed of your small injury, but now tied to a tree. You can't see anyone else around, either mercenary or your mysterious assailant. Now you just have to escapee...
You could attempt to reach your pocket knife, which will probably be able to cut the rope if you use it correct, which could easily fail and may aggravate any guards watching you in secret. You could yell something to the effect of "What is going on?", which will alert the guards but may bring you some information. Or you could just stay here quietly, examining and waiting, to see if you can see anyone in the trees, or on the ground, or if any help comes. What do you do?
