You head over to the lake and take a somewhat musty drink of water from it. You don't see any readily available food, but a few fish in the lake. If you could somehow make a fishing pole, you have some rope and a stick you could use as a pole, but you don't have any bait or hook, you are stuck just staring at the fish before you decided to stroll into town.
The town was a short walk away, despite the fact that they looked many miles away. Either that or the fact that it feels easier to walk here somehow made you get a lot further. Whatever it was, you came upon the village. Most of the buildings where one story, made of stone with some hay roofs. Strange, you think, do to the fact that an abundant forest surrounds them and they decide to use stone to build. Walking down the street, you notice several things. One was a horse farm, filled with horses and a few men training them, feeding them, etc. Actually, most the aria was like this. Full of horses and men. You act on edge, but the men seem to ignore you. There is also another few buildings, an inn, a restaurant, a tailor, and everything that you would expect a town to have. Except, for some reason, a carpenter or any other woodworker.
You are in the town, and it doesn't seem hostile. You could go into the inn and see what information you can gather. You could go pillage something, maybe a horse or something shiny. You could also just leave this town. What do you do?

Biography: A young man who never sought trouble after settling down in a cottage with his wife in the countryside. His job as a merchant, although not stable, was enough to sustain them. Fortunately for him, though, he had been prepared for the time he would have to defend their home; the very same wizard who accidentally linked the two portals had taught him a couple of spells before his untimely 'abduction'.
Physical appearance: Around mid 20s, somewhat tall for his age, of average build, short, black hair, brown eyes, crooked nose.
You ask the wife, as she responds "Yes, dear, I am fine... I am just worried. We already had to abandon one home...What next? But we made the right choice. We don't have much, and what we do have fits on our backs. We are still alive, so we are fine." or something like that, a farmer was hysterically yelling in front of you something about iron monsters to a guard. You decided to interrupt and tell your story.
"Goblins are quite common, maybe they came in by accident. That isn't reason to call the guard or anything. Don't worry, sir, you are well protected here" he states, then fans him self with his helmet and adds "First reports of farms being destroyed by fire spitting beasts made of iron. Now reports of goblins. Next we are going to have another dragon attack, like the one that happened a century ago... This is starting to get on the guard's minds. Some are reporting explosions somewhere in the distance near the farms. Hey, now I think I am hearing something to..."
And he did, and so did you. You could see it to. In the distance, a strange self pulled cart plated with metal was coming, maybe a mile away now. And it was coming fast. The guard gave a shout of surprise and grabbed at the emergency horn, calling some guards to attack. At the same time you hear another explosion, and a nearby building explodes as fire spits from the beast.
This situation just got a lot worse. You could use your horse and cart to run before it is to late, saving yourself but probably dooming the city. You could fight to save your city, either sending your wife out with the cart as you fight alone or keeping your wife with you. Or you could run back to your hose and fortify it, but you saw what the monster just did to another house, maybe the guards can fight it themselves. What do you do?
By the way, come on, is nobody around here with the poor, somewhat primitive, innocent folk of this unknown galaxy?
There are three people recorded to attempt this. One picketed the Kremlin building, and was promptly executed, with every piece of data that suggested he had existed erased. The second fell in love with an elf, and was swiftly killed as her boyfriend found out. The third came as a mercenary for some company, but he was damaged in an attack by a stone elemental, where he was knocked out. He was saved by a wizard who temporary dominated the elemental and brought the poor man back to his tower, where he nursed him back to health with alchemy and magic. The mercenary then swore to protect this galaxy from raiders and internal threats. He ended up excelling for a while, with the extra energy and all, but he never ended up fighting any other mercenaries. After a long series of quests and heroic deeds, ditching his gun for this universes strong armor and sword with some magic spells and potions, he was attacked by hang-ons of an orc tribe he easily defeated a while back. One of the orcs had a lucky shot, hitting his exposed exploding potion blowing him to smithereens. And that is pretty much it.

Biography: Corporate raider; just a hired street urchin.
Physical appearance: Older teen, in expensive black suit (payment from the corporation) Crosshair Oaklies, sword and SMG slung across back.
You return to the tavern and buy a room, costing you ten copper. After a good long rest, you feel refreshed. The scar where you where hit by a bolt was gone. You feel like new.
But now you have the place scanned out, there isn't really anything you can do but plan. You could go try stealing from the palace, a well guarded place, but with a ton of loot. You could loot the tradesmen in the aria you saw last night. Or you could just stroll around and see what happens. What do you do?
Should I add a 'loot' slot?
I just put the loot in the "Inventory" slot, as it typically has a purpose at the very least as currency. You won't be able to hold to much loot at one time anyway, and what you do will usually stack. Like if you managed to steal from a jewelry store, you would have an item named "10 Jewelry" and you would fill your pockets. But if you really want to for your own convenience, feel free.
