Hmm, I examine the construction of the building (how many exits it has, if it's a building or a basement bar, etc) and barricade the exits; 2. if only one (mainly from 'basement' bars) partially barricade the exit (can climb over it but it doesn't move, cuz the stairs are jammed with stuff); 1. if more then one leaving one partially barricaded to get in and out - if there is a second floor, then barricade all exits on the first (with tables, chairs, etc) and go to the second floor to scavenge and make a route down (towels, cloths, etc tied together or ladder of some sort).
Once the barricade/s are set up, I test them out by shoving/kick them a bit, if they don't collapse/budge much, they should hold out for awhile.

Hmmm, I'd make it a temporary one, yes. Ps. Do I have to equip the metal pipe? If so then I'll equip it now.
Once I've barricaded the entrance, I scavenge one more time, just in case I missed anything, and head on out to find food and gun... "If only I can find a mop or broom, I could use it as a spear." I thought to myself.

I check to see if the vent does lead outside, or if it goes through a building.
If I can't climb into a building with it; once outside I survey my surrounding, before getting out of the vent. If it's safe, I chose when building I'm going to head off to, preferably a arms store or a house/apartment (convenience stores, supermarket, and malls - especially supermarkets and malls - tend to have zombie loiter about, from my deduction anyways XD).
If I can climb into a building; I would make a mental note of how to get there and what the building is, then head outside. If outside isn't safe I head back inside and scavenge the building. If outside is safe, I do the above.

The vent leads to the ground floor of the building you are in there is blood and dead bodies everywhere and a lone zombie outside... the door is still connected and there a table blocking it...seems someone was here as most of the loot is gone.

I survey the area looking for loot, checking if the bodies are infected, if the zombie can get in, if there are any more zombies around, and if there is a 2nd floor.
If the zombie moves away/can't get in, the bodies aren't infected, and it's safe; I head out and check if the bodies have anything useful, stripping them of their clothes after checking, if the have any on. (I'm also going to take the keys, hope they have those beeping key-chains so I can use to distract the zombies/know where the car is) If there is a 2nd floor, I head up there ready for any surprises that might await.
If it's not safe, I look out the window, as best I can and check out the terrain.
