Are you using a good ol' 2B? It's has quite a large value range, so it shouldn't be too hard.

Have you tried hatching?

Yep, started to do some hatching, mostly crosses for now though. Will experiment with more types.

Oh, and I should credit that these are drawings with modifications, of digital art/paintings that catch my fancy on the Net....

Another chibi cat girl....her ears are a tad bit off, but I think they're getting better overall...
