The laborers leave the cave! Some Yellow Enormous Spiders try to attack them, but they won't go near the daylight. They don't have problems with the torches, so it must be either the sun's intensity or the UV radiation. To know what a Yellow Enormous Spider looks like, think the Galvantua from Pokemon.
The researchers quickly develop a Spear and Shield out of wood. Basically a long, sharp stick and a wooden circle. They then begin developing more advanced spears and shields that actually require spear training.

The Rangers take positions in the trees and take down the Reavers. Their positions in the trees means that the Reavers can't reach them, leaving them unable to fight back. The Rangers use some flags to mark the Reavers for potential resources.
